What is pin legit?

The purpose of pin legit is:

1) to curb the growing trend of illegal and unauthorized pins,
2) to provide collectors with an opportunity to better educate themselves, and
3) to instill additional confidence.

The "pin legit" program is not a 100% solution, nor will it eliminate the production and distribution of illegal and unauthorized pins altogether. Simply put, that would be impossible.

The "pin legit" program only focuses on known, documented illegal and unauthorized pins. It’s intention is not to have witchhunts, in which a group of collectors (Pin Police) go around making subjective decisions about what is or isn’t legitimate, based on their attitudes. That could do much more harm than simply doing nothing.  The consumer awareness concerns demonstrated by "pin legit" are essentially being smart and using common sense. "If it sounds too good to be true…".

The Pin Dealer's Promise to You.

To participate in the "pin legit" program, a Pin Site Host is required to sign and return to "pin legit" the following agreement:

"I understand that I am participating in the "pin legit" program. Therefore, I agree to adhere to the following list of standards:

1) I will not offer for sale or trade any pin I know to be an illegal, unauthorized, or novelty pin, unless I display with the pin adequate signage indicating such. In addition, if someone indicates an interest in a pin I am offering that I know to be an illegal, unauthorized, or novelty pin, I will take all necessary steps in my communication with them to confirm they are aware before finalizing the sale/trade.

2) Should I unknowingly sell an illegal or unauthorized pin to someone, I agree to a 100% return policy. If I unknowingly trade such a pin to someone, and can no longer return their trade, I agree to provide them with their choice of pins at a value agreed upon between the trader and myself.

3) If I observe an authorized "pin legit" Pin Site host offering a documented illegal or unauthorized pin without displaying signage indicating such, I agree to immediately provide the "pin legit" program with that information.

4) I understand and agree that if I fail to abide by this agreement in any way, I will completely remove any reference to the "pin legit" program, including the "pin legit" trademark, from my Site, and the acknowledgement of my participation will be removed from the pinlegit list of members.

5) If I observe a Pin Site that displays the "pin legit" logo, or claims to be a "pin legit" participant, and that Site is not included in the list of participants shown on the "pin legit" home page, I agree to contact "pin legit" immediately with that information.

Participating Pin Dealers will be allowed to display the pin legit logo on their website, which must be hyperlinked to this page, provided they adhere to the details of the above statement.  Participating Pin Dealers may also include the pin legit logo, hyperlinked to this page, in customized item descriptions for pin auctions, such as eBay.
