Disney's Press Release LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL - Millions of Disney collectible pins will be offered for sale, given as gifts with purchase, and traded by Disney guests and cast members in an unprecendented series of events as part of the daily Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration from October 1, 1999 through January 1, 2001. "Pin collecting has become a phenomenon", explains Joan Ryan, Senior Vice President of Attractions Merchandise. "During the Millennium, we will be adding Disney Magic, taking the pin craze to a new level." At interactive Millennium pin locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort, guests will be able to purchase hundreds of Disney pins, trade pins with other guests, and even swap Disney pins with designated Disney cast members. Special collectors' accessories will also be available for purchase, including a commemorative Millennium collection book. Disney's limited-edition retail Millennium Pins will be created using the cloisonne process, which are colored with powdered glass and fired at 800 degrees; semi-cloisonne, which uses epoxy resin for wider color range; and enamel, in which all colors are applied simultaneously. Every day for the 450 day celebration, a limited number of unique pins will be available as gifts with purchases at designated Epcot retail locations. The 'Pin of the Day' gift with purchase program will, as the name implies, feature a different pin each day. Each pin depicts small images of Disney characters in the background. When the pins are put together for an entire month, they form a pictorial mosaic of an Epcot location. This "photomosaic" effect was created by artist Robert Silvers, author of several books showcasing the effect, including one devoted to Disney images. The simplest way to be sure of getting all 450 Disney Millennium pins is to join the Millennium Pin CLub, limited to the 2000 guests. For each of the 15 months of the Millennium Celebration, a framed pin set will be delivered to members' homes. Membership is $3,000, which also includes a free gift and certificate signed by Robert Silvers. The "Pin of the Day" pins will be photo pins, using a reproduction process well-suited to details.
